This past week was super busy and CRAZY hot. I had zero free nights to run, which is quickly becoming a trend this summer. If anything, it is a foreshadow of what is to come over the next couple of weeks. As I stated yesterday, Josh and I signed a lease for a new house this weekend, and will be moving in less than 2 weeks! We organized and packed a lot over the weekend, but still have a long way to go. So here's what happened over the past week:
WEEK 2 - BASE
Monday: 4 miles plus ultimate frisbee
It was really hot. All week.
Tuesday: Frisbee (2 hours)
Wednesday: REST - Girl's night!
I went to Kanella with my girl friends from work, and it was delicious! We popped some champagne and feasted on some of the best Greek food I've ever had.
5 miles (morning)
This is worth the 5 AM wake up call.
Frisbee (2 hours)
It was still really really hot.
Saturday: 10 miles (treadmill)
If you recall, I was supposed to volunteer as a pacer and aid station worker at the Back on My Feet 20in24 race all Saturday night. Well, long story short, the City of Philadelphia CANCELLED the race
due to the extreme heat, while other races in the city were still allowed to go on. I could go on and on about what I really think about this decision, and maybe I will in another post. In the end, I heeded the city's warnings and ran 10 miles on a treadmill during the hottest part of the day.
Sunday: 12.5 miles (trail run)
This was one of the sweatiest runs I've ever
done. The high was *only* about 89 degrees on Sunday, and the humidity was relatively low at about 55%. However, I still managed to sweat up a storm and when all was said and done, it looked like I took a dunk in a swimming pool when I finished this run. I drank 20 oz of Tailwind
(I'll review that in another post) and about 60 oz. water, and I was STILL dehydrated at the end. This run made me dream about autumn and the glorious runs that September will bring. Minus the dehydration, it was a decent run overall, and I was very happy to return to the Wissahickon for the first time in several weeks.
TOTAL: 31.5 Miles
This week was a little more unbalanced than I'd like, with too few short runs and too many frisbee games. This was magnified because I only had one REAL rest day (Wednesday). However, I still got in 2 back-to-back, double digit runs on the weekend and was happy to push past my comfort zone on Sunday's hot run.
With 3 more frisbee games this week and a beach frisbee tournament this upcoming weekend, I'm going to take a slight step back in training this week, but will still aim to reach 30 miles to help build my foundation for more serious training this fall.
