Wedding Update – The Venue

Last weekend, Josh and I headed up to the Poconos to visit a couple of wedding venues. We had a few "musts" on our venue criteria list:

1)  Must be a scenic venue.

Obviously, I am partial to scenic views and a natural setting. I was not 100% against a city wedding, but somehow I just could not imagine myself spending such an important day away from nature.

2) Must accommodate approximately 250 guests.

Josh and I both have large families, and we wanted to invite all of our friends as well. Thus, we were not willing to cut our guest list just to fit into a particular venue.

3) Must be reasonably priced.

We are very lucky to have parents who are willing to help out with the wedding costs, however, we knew that with around 250 guests, things could get very pricey.

Over the past few weeks, I spent a lot of time scouring the internet for the perfect mix of all of these items. I found an ideal place in Vermont, but when all was said and done, it was too pricey and far away. The Pocono Mountains, on the other hand, offered a perfect compromise of distance and scenery at only 2-3 hours from Philadelphia.

The first venue was saw last Saturday was beautifully situated on Lake Wallenpaupack, and while it had a gorgeous view, we felt it was simply not large enough for a wedding of our size.

At the second venue, I knew the minute we stepped out to the lakeside ceremony grounds that I wanted to get married there.

I am beyond thrilled to announce that next September, Josh and I will be getting married at  the Woodloch Pines Resort in Hawley, Pennsylvania!

Woodloch offers everything we could have wanted, including a beautiful ceremony site (see above) a large dining room that overlooks the lake, an outdoor deck for the cocktail hour and reception, a bonfire space for post-wedding, and accommodations for the guests. On top of that, the resort offers activities for all staying guests including, indoor/outdoor pools and hotubs, kayaking, tennis, golf, archery, hiking, horseback riding, and many more.

I am so excited and simultaneously relieved that we have booked our venue. I can't wait to share the rest of my wedding plans over the next year!
