It seems like nearly the whole country is stuck in a polar vortex or under a blanket of snow right now. Thankfully I have a gym membership so I can take some runs indoors when the windchill gets vicious, but anytime the temperature rises above 20 degrees I've been happy to get outside for a run. Here are a few of my favorite things I've been wearing this winter, both outside and on the treadmill.
The Oiselle Flyte Long Sleeve in Fresh Green is light enough to breathe under a jacket but heavy enough to wear alone. I wore it by itself the other day when the temperature was about 40 degrees, and it was perfect. The thumbholes block any wind from getting up your sleeves, and the cut is fitted, but not tight. It's a great transitional layer from winter to spring.
I loved my black Oiselle Trials hoodie so much, I had to order it in another color. Luckily, orange is one of my favorite colors. I thought people were hyping this hoodie up way too much when I first heard about it, but the first time I put it on, I realized what the hype was about. It's SUPER soft and thin, but still very warm. It is also generously sized so you can order your normal shirt size without worrying about it being too tight and layer things under it. This is the perfect lounging hoodie....I wear one nearly every night while relaxing on the couch. Not kidding!
The Oiselle Flow Tights are my new favorite leggings and running capris! I love how versatile they are. Since they are very soft and not super technical they pass as regular leggings, but on a run they feel like a dream. I will advise that they are a bit longer than I expected, which is fine because I like longer capris anyway. I am 5'7", and they hit right under the big part of my calf muscle. If you are a shortie, I might advise sizing down in order to get the true mid-calf feel.
I have to admit, I was reluctant to stray from my beloved Oiselle Rogas and try a new short. I've got about 6 pairs of Rogas at this point, and am loyal to things that work for my body type. However, when I spied a pair of Distance Shorts on the sale rack at my local running store, Philadelphia Runner, I had to scoop them up! After wearing them on a couple runs, I could see why many of my Oiselle teammates are in love with these shorts. The fit is shorter than the Rogas, but roomy, and they do not ride up. On a hot summer day, I bet these will feel like wearing nothing because they are so light. For now, these are my trusty treadmill shorts in the winter, and the bright pink Rhody helps brighten up gloomy winter days. This color is on sale for $30 right now at oiselle.com.
So there's a snapshot of what I'm wearing on the run lately. If you have any questions about any of these items, give me a shout in the comments or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
