Earlier this year, I laid out a bunch of goals for 2014, involving short and speedy races on the roads and trails. However, it's taken me quite some time to finalize a race schedule for this winter/spring that was an ideal mix of distance and terrain.
I recently updated my out of date "Races" page to reflect my tentative plans. I'm happy to say there is not one race that is longer than 15.5 miles (25k). I'm really trying to stick to my long distance burnout recovery plan by only running races shorter than the marathon during the first half of 2014. So far, I think it's working, because lately I have been feeling that familiar urge to pull the trigger on a fall marathon registration! It's nice to feel the desire to run long distances again, instead of dread or resentment I began to feel during 50 miler training last fall.
Hint: I'm leaning towards running the Philly marathon in November, simply because it is my favorite marathon and holds a very special place in my heart. It's where I ran my first marathon, and is my current marathon PR. Plus it's super convenient.
Anyway, here is the plan for this spring. It may change as I haven't registered for most of these races yet, but as of right now, this is what my calendar looks like:
2014 Race Schedule (Through May)
Hangover Classic 5k (1.1.14) - 23:27*
Ugly Mudder 7M (2.23.14)
NERRC Winter Classic 10k (3.2.14)
The LOVE Run Half Marathon (3.30.14)
Tyler Trail 10k (4.5.14)
Broad Street Run 10 Miler (5.4.14)
Ragnar Relay Cape Cod (5.9.14)
Dirty German 25k (5.25.14)
This will be good mix of old and new races for me. I've run the Tyler 10k, the Broad Street Run, and the Dirty German (50k) in the past, so I know what to expect and hope to improve my times. I'm excited for the rest of the races, which will all be new to me. I think the most fun race will be Ragnar Cape Cod, which I'm running with some Oiselle teammates on team "Flock You Like a Hurricane". Can't wait!
Anyone else running any of these races this year? Have you run any of these in prior years?
